UP for Children of Incarcerated Parents
On The Upward is passionate and dedicated to supporting children of incarcerated parents through various programs.
Emotional Support
We partner with licensed counselors to provide individual and group therapy sessions. We also facilitate peer support groups where children can share experiences and coping strategies in a safe environment.
Mentorship
We provide children with trained adult mentors who can offer guidance, friendship, and positive role models.
Educational Support
We provide one-on-one or group tutoring to help children with their academic studies. We also provide scholarships for extracurricular activities, summer camps, and other educational materials. We facilitate workshops on study skills, time management, and other educational topics.
Social Development
We provide opportunities for children of incarcerated parents to participate in organized sports, arts and crafts, and other recreational activities to help children develop social skills and self-esteem. We plan regular outings and field trips to museums, parks, and cultural events to provide enriching experiences. We offer classes on life skills and practical skills such as financial literacy, cooking, self-care, hygiene, and basic home maintenance skills.
Family Engagement
We help children and their incarcerated parents maintain contact. We facilitate letter-writing, phone calls, and video visits between children and their incarcerated parents. We promote healthy parent-child relationships. We create programs so that children of incarcerated parents can interact in a supportive and structured environment.
